It’s also a fascinating, scenic and welcoming destination for visitors. We’ll spend the day, with the help of a local guide, discovering the city including its top attractions and its bond with the Mayo Clinic. You can’t turn a corner without observing the history and the current influence Mayo Clinic has on Rochester.
Highlights of the day include a visit to The Plummer House, built by Dr. Henry Plummer who was a physician at the Mayo Clinic from 1901 until his death in 1936. This is an impeccable eleven acre estate with beautiful landscaped grounds, formal gardens, trails and an English Tudor mansion consisting of 49 rooms, 10 bathrooms, 9 bedrooms, and 5 fireplaces. We’ll also visit the Plummer Building, the most stunning building on the downtown Rochester Mayo Clinic campus. Mayowood Mansion (pictured), built in 1911 by Dr. Charles Mayo and home to three generations of the famous family, is also one of our stops. A guided tour of the 38 room estate including the extensive decorative arts collection, gardens and antique furnishings will be unforgettable. An included lunch in Rochester and time for downtown shopping is planned. Moderate walking.
