Indigenous Peoples Day Program at the Reedsburg Area Chamber of Commerce

Date: October 11, 2021 Time: 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM
Event Description
Monday, October 11, 2021, 1-3 PM, Sauk County's third annual Indigenous Peoples' Day will be held on Monday, October 11th at the Reedsburg Area Chamber of Commerce, located at 240 Railroad Street

The Reedsburg Depot / Chamber of Commerce was selected this year because of an incident that happened at the original wooden depot on this site in December of 1873, when the forced deportation of dozens of Ho-Chunk Nation members by federal troops was halted by the actions of hundreds of Reedsburg residents. This moment in time became a very important day for Reedsburg and for the friendship and respect that developed between the white settlers and the people of the Ho-Chunk Nation.

This event will be commemorated with a program that will begin at 1:00 pm, and guests are invited to come early and sample native foods made by Ho-Chunk chefs which will be available throughout the event. The Winnebago Sons drum group will also be participating, and a history walk with twelve stations will be set up in Harvest Park. Special guests will be the descendants of Chief Blue Wing (Ahuchoga) and other members of the Ho-Chunk Nation.
The event will be held outside from 1 pm – 3 pm, but due to the anticipated crowd, masks are encouraged. The public is welcome to attend.
