Scrapbooking and Card Making Program at Reedsburg Public Library

Date: August 7, 2017 Time: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Event Description At one time making scrapbooks and homemade cards may have involved rubber cement, black adhesive corners and construction paper.  Today, scrapbooking and card making are bona fide crafts, with innumerable methods and choices of materials for embellishing each project.  On Monday, August 7, at 6:00 p.m., Library Circulation Supervisor Jo Clark, and Circulation Assistant, Alyssa Pace, will share a variety of techniques for creating scrapbook pages and homemade cards with adult participants.  No registration is necessary.

At the program, offered as part of our Adults at Play series, scrap bookers will have the choice of making a “travel” page or “summer memories” page.  Participants may wish to bring four to six photographs with them for mounting on either their own scrapbook page or one that is provided.  Background pages, die cuts, and stamps related to the summer and travel themes will be furnished.  As part of the session, Jo will demonstrate various die cut methods.  The library’s Accucut die-cut machine is always available for in-library use by area crafters.

Card stock will be provided for the making of notecards and greeting cards.  Alyssa will demonstrate how stamps, powder dyes and a heat tool can be employed to make embossed cards.  The completed card will feature a raised design with a metallic finish.  Participants will have the choice of two projects and may choose their own cardstock, designs, and color dyes.  Crafters are also invited to bring with them any finished coloring pages that they may wish to include in a scrapbook or card project.

The scrapbooking and card making session is an example of the many types of crafting programs Reedsburg Public Library has endeavored to bring to the community in recent years.  Maker Space, a new buzzword in library circles, envisions the library as a place where community members may engage with each other in sharing and learning new skills.  Programs that have been popular in the past include simple quilting projects, felting, jewelry making, quilling, flower arranging, wine glass painting and fly-tying.

To date, the library has utilized the talents of library staff, members of the Friends of the Library group, and community members in presenting craft programs.  If you have a skill that you would like to share with others, or an idea for a program that you think the community would enjoy, you are invited to visit the library’s webpage at www.reedsburglibrary.org and submit your idea under the “Pitch a Program” link.  Library staff will attempt to follow up on all suggestions.
