They are used extensively in salons, spas and beauty products. What exactly are essential oils? These amazing oils have been around almost as long as recorded time. Their uses for healing and well-being are well respected and documented. In this class, we will learn a little about where these oils come from, why they work and their applications as an alternative or adjunct health treatment. Alternative Energy for Beginners: This course will cover the pros and cons of alternative energy, along with a discussion on the science of energy. Both major energy sources, such as solar, wind, and bio-mass (wood, pellet, grains, waste, compost) and minor sources of energy, such as hydroelectric, thermal mass, and exotic types will be reviewed. You will also learn about the economics, maintenance and construction aspects as well. This class is scheduled for Wednesday, September 21, from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Reedsburg Campus. Dave Kosak is the instructor for this class, and the course fee is $30.50.

CAL Center Presents brings to Reedsburg once again world-class entertainment. This year’s season begins with putting some hair out the window with the Missoula Children’s Theatre’s production of Rapunzel, which features professional talent along with a large source of local children talent. Local auditions will be held on Sept. 26 at 4pm at the CAL Center for ages K through 12. Rehearsals will take place all week long after school and into the evening. The production of Rapunzel will be held on Oct. 1, at 2pm and 6pm. Tickets are - Adults $5, Children (12 & under) $3. On a special note, the 2PM performance of Rapunzel will be signed by a professional interpreter for the hearing impaired.

Growing Hops as a Hobby is scheduled for Tuesday, September 27, from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Reedsburg campus. When you think of hops, beer is generally the first thing to come to mind. However, hops have various uses, beyond brewing beer. Hops are easy to grow and will also attract many types of pollinators to your garden. This course will provide a brief history about hops, basic information about what is needed in order to grow them as a hobby, and tips for harvest, storage, and use. Here's an interesting plant you might enjoy growing, whether you brew your own beer as a hobby or whether you just like to try your hand at growing something unusual in your garden. Gretchen Kruse is the instructor for this course, and the cost of this class is $17.50.
